Economics Learning

"Economics are everyone"

@EconLearning is a student led Instagram page, dedicated to spreading basic economic theories to youth! Our simple goal is promote economics through the use of digital media, hoping to increase youth engagement with the subject and spread economics literacy.

About @Econlearning

The @Econlearning instagram page was created by myself, Kat, in September of 2020 so that I could spread economics amongst other instagram users. Specifically the account was created so that I could spread knowledge of economics to those who haven't studied it in school, and possibly never will, so that more young people would have knowledge of basic economic concepts that apply to real life! So far, I have created a platform with other lovers of economics, and have received lots of positive feedback from followers who are either studying it at a simular level that I am (A-Level) and even people who are undertaking degrees! I have found that most of my followers are actually from India (over 50% of my followers!), and have learnt that there is a large economics loving Indian community on Instagram! I have loved being able to connect with an international audience, and talk with people from all over the planet.

The idea of the page first came to be when I was talking to my friends who haven't studied economics before about current affairs. I have known through studying the subject that economics (specifically macroeconomics) is very interconnected in everyday life, and many of my friends did not know much about it. On TikTok, although it may be a joke, many videos are made about solving the debt problem. "Just print more money" the videos will say and "But don't tell the banks we're printing more money" is what most of the comment sections say. Comments like these have inspired me to make this account, so that general people can learn about the money supply and inflation!

All of the content covered in the account is to a high school standard. I myself am studying A-Level Economics (by the Edexcel exam board). This is to ensure that I am talking about things that I am confident about, and so that I know all the information I share are unbiased and factual. It is also so that the content is simple enough for people who have never read around the subject before to understand it, as sometimes economics concepts can be puzzling if you have't studied from properly in school. Even though all the information is taken from my A-Level specification, I have read around and understand each topic much more, so that I can explain it in the best way possible!

I can't wait to further grow the account and share more content!

About the owner

@Econlearning is run by myself, Kat! I am eighteen years old from the United Kingdom, currently studying for my A-Level Examinations in 2021. I have studied Economics for the last 2 years to A-Level standard, but hope to gain an undergraduate degree in BSc Economics in the future. This account therefore is only to share what I have learnt in the classroom: so that I am talking about things that i actually know something about and so that the concepts are simple enough for someone who has never studied the subject before to understand read! I have a preference for macroeconomics over microeconomics, with particular interests in international economics, environmental economics, development economics and global issues surrounding economics. I hope that through university I can discover what my interests are, and then specialise my studies through a post graduate degree (hopefully at LSE - but we'll see when we get there!). In terms of job prospects, right now I would love to work to build a green economy in the future and establish a society where economic growth and development can occur alongside keeping environmental goals, but I have plenty of time to figure out what I actually want. I'm also playing with the idea of getting foundations in investing banking, and then work for a green finance firm but these are just ideas 😁.
